Does being Homozygous for factor V leiden increase your risk for developing a clot?

Hi Jennifer, yes it does put you at a much higher risk than someone who is not factor five, but, that doesnt mean that you will develop a clot either. You just have to look out for the symptoms and get anything checked out immediately by your doctor.

When you are homozygous you have both of the defected genes for FVL and are at a higher risk of getting a clot than someone with heterozygous(which is only one defected gene) FVL and both are at a higher risk than someone without FVL.
