factor v leiden

i have factor 5 leiden.i need 2 surgerys on my legs.knee replacement,and a ankle fusion.iam very worried about clots after.i will be in wheelchair in andout for about a year.should i live with this disconfort and forget about surgery?i cant get a stright answer.thank you Debbie from Maine

I was told by my hemotologist that as long as you let the surgeons know and prior to any surgery, then they will put you on an anticoagulant like lovenox injections, before surgery and warfarin post op. Also if you ever break a long bone; legs, or arms you need to be put on anticoags. S go ahead with the surgery. Good luck
